Product Details

Spend less time preparing your sample and more time analyzing it with our 25-minute, industry-leading microbubble protocol. BACS™ Dead Cell Removal Microbubbles eliminate dead cells, enabling better science with more isolated, viable cells in a cleaner sample.

Mechanism of Action: During apoptosis, phosphatidylserine (PS) – a phospholipid normally found on the inner surface of the plasma membrane – is redistributed to the extracellular surface. The relocation of PS to the outer surface of the cell membrane provides an effective target for differentiating dead cells from viable cells within a biological sample. The Dead Cell Removal Kit utilizes BACS™ Microbubbles coated with Annexin V, a PS binding molecule, to capture and float dead cells away.

How it Works: The Dead Cell Removal Microbubble Kit are mixed into the sample where they bind to dead and dying cells. Using their inherent buoyancy, the microbubbles quickly and gently float the dead cells to the surface. Following a centrifugation step, the microbubbles and dead cells are aspirated away leaving the viable cells of interest untouched and ready for downstream applications.

Key Features

The Dead Cell Removal Microbubble Kit is designed to deplete apoptotic cells from a variety of biological samples. Unwanted dead and dying cells are captured with Annexin V conjugated BACS™ microbubbles. Captured dead cells are gently removed while enriched cells are left healthy, untouched, and ready for a wide variety of applications such as single-cell techniques, flow sorting, and cell culturing.

Elevated Solutions for Sample Preparation

Tired of damaged cells? Our gentle workflow isolates cells in their natural state.
Keep more cells of interest with over 86% recovery of viable cells to perform more studies to gain greater depth of knowledge.
Get more out of samples that would otherwise be discarded.
Maximum performance maintained with as few as 500k cells.

Elegant in Simplicity, Powerful in Application

BACS™ Microbubble technology harnesses the power of buoyancy to provide a fast, easy, and gentle cell isolation. Our novel technology couples performance, ease, and quality, bringing cell separation to the next level.

Experience the Benefits of a Microbubble Workflow

No longer worry about being limited by magnets, losing cells to clogged columns, or purchasing costly equipment
Save time with a 25-minute protocol, enabling you to focus on your other research
Single-tube processing that minimizes handling and loss of target cells

How Microbubbles Compare to Other Methods

  • Flow Sorting: time consuming, expensive, harsh on cells
  • Low Speed Centrifugation: time consuming, low yield
  • Magnetic Beads: low yield, clogged columns, difficult to scale
  • Levitation: low throughput, low capacity, costly equipment

Akadeum’s targeted removal of dead cells is achieved through the selective capture of cells with exposed phosphatidylserine (PS) using Annexin V conjugated BACS™ microbubbles. Once mixed with the sample, the BACS Dead Cell Removal microbubbles capture dead cells and float them to the surface for removal, leaving the untouched cells of interest happy, healthy, and ready for downstream use.

Representative Dead Cell Removal

Example of dead cell removal from apopotic mouse splenocytes. Enriched viable cells were stained with DAPI and Annexin V. The fluorescently labeled cells were analyzed by flow cytometry.
