Job Description

Akadeum is looking for a motivated, hands-on and milestone driven Systems Engineer. This role lies at the intersection of hardware, software and assay development. The Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise to enable the design and development of Akadeum microbubble device systems. This role reports to Akadeum’s Head of R&D. In this critical role, you will play an integral part in all aspects of systems development – requirements definition/design/development of electromechanical systems, integration/troubleshooting of electromechanical systems and manufacturing processes, development of V&V and quality test protocols and liquid handling.

Specific responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Lead overall project management for software-controlled electromechanical instrument development activities with a third party development and manufacturing partner
  • Lead requirements definition & provide critical development support of software controlled electromechanical sub-assemblies and overall system
  • Support the defining and execution of design control activities
  • Troubleshoot sub-system & system failures
  • Develop manufacturing and quality testing protocols
  • Assist with risk management activities
  • Support validation efforts on a range of components as needed, including training of field teams on IFUs, installs and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to achieve system milestones and support system launch


  • At least a B.S. in an electro-mechanical engineering discipline with at least 2-4 years of industry experience (ideally in the life sciences) with increasing responsibility
  • Excellent program/project management skills including scheduling, budgeting, resource management, etc.
  • Experience with managing complex software-controlled electromechanical instrument development and automation programs
  • Experience working in life science fields & leading efficient transfer of biological assays on to automated platforms is highly desired
  • Significant quality engineering experience is a strong plus
  • Outstanding project management, communication and organizational skills are a must
  • Should be comfortable with handling biological materials (training provided)
  • Experience with overall risk management
  • Experience in life science device development under design controls
  • Knowledge of liquid handling and device manufacturing techniques
